THE EARLY YEARS

Rode Pool Services was started by two couples in a partnership in 1981. Two years later in March 1983, Mike and June Gervais purchased the business. Initially opening 6 days a week, Mike did the small amount of regular servicing and call-outs that came in and their 3 sons, Mark, Luke and Carl helped out in the shop and on school holidays.

To encourage growth for the business Mike would offer free Pool Instructions for new clients and new pool owners, which would take place early in the mornings before work. This initiative increased the client base quite substantially. Mike’s first casual employee was Mrs My Buick, who did the regular services three days a week and also helped out in the store when required.

In the Summer of 1983, Luke started Sunday trading, 9am – 1pm, being dropped off to open and picked up after closing. An initial incentive of 10% of the takings to Luke, was enough to continue the practice for many years.

A few years later in 1985, Bob and Frank were hired as casual employees, who were both employed by Qld Fire & Rescue with Mary soon following as a full-time employee. In the following years, the employment pool (no pun intended) grew to include three service vans on the road.

Since 1981, we have remained an independent, family-owned business.

OPENING THE GAP

With demand for our services growing in the Western suburbs, we expanded and opened The Gap Store in 1998. Our position at The Gap Handyman Centre proved pivotal in providing the surrounding areas with a complete backyard solution.

In 2001, The Gap store started the infamous “Rode Pools Charity Golf Day”. This event was held over the following 12 years, raising well over $60,000 for Mt Olivet, now St Vincent’s Palliative Care.

CENTRALISING OUR BUSINESS

To keep up with the expanding service work and customer base we opened our Head office in Windsor in 2006. The larger warehouse allowed us to hold stock for all three stores, as well as centralising our Service Division.

PROMOTING LEADING BRANDS

Our relationship with Davey Water Products started in 1985. We're still using and recommending Davey products today, 40 years later! 

Our support of Maytronics started in 2011, with the introduction of robotic cleaners into the Australian residential pool market. We were awarded the 2020 Maytronics Dealers of the Year award for QLD and National Dealer of the Year in 2022. This was a credit to our entire team for ensuring that we provided the best service and support to our customers who purchased a Dolphin Robotic cleaner or Mineral Swim system.

SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY

We recognise the value of local community engagement, and through our sponsorship of many local schools and sporting teams, we encourage everyone to lead a healthier lifestyle.  Some of the teams we support are: Mitchelton Soccer Club, Ferny Hills Oztag, The Gap Football Club, Gap Gators Swim Club, GPS Rugby, Variety SCCP, Windsor Royals Baseball, Somerset State School, Jets Touch Football Club, Wilston Grange Gorillas AFL, Rotary Ashgrove/The Gap, Mt Alvernia College, Stuartholme School, The Gap AFL, Albany Creek Rugby League, Macellin OCAFC & more!

Our Stores

Some familiar faces you may recall from in store or next to your pool, brothers Luke and Carl have been working at Rode Pools since they were teenagers. Operations Manager Steve has been with us since 1998 and knows just about everything there is to know about all of our customer’s pools having been to most of them in person too!
